Pedro Torres Warehouse worker by day

If you don’t think of the Pine Bend refinery as a stronghold for the creative arts, you haven’t met Pedro Torres yet.
A refinery employee of more than 35 years, Pedro is the founding member and guitarist for Mariachi Flor Y Canto, one of the best-known Mariachi bands in the region. Founded 30 years ago in Saint Paul, Pedro and his band have shared their talents with audiences across the Midwest. In fact, Pedro’s group regularly performs at the Flint Hills International Children’s Festival in downtown Saint Paul, bringing joy to thousands of kids and their families each year.
In a company bustling with scientists and engineers, we are proud to have an artistic-minded employee like Pedro representing us at the Children’s Festival, for which Flint Hills has been the title sponsor since 2001.
“I love what I do at the refinery and the people I work with, and I love entertaining my loved ones, neighbors, and others outside of my job,” says Pedro. “When those two passions come together for our band’s performance at the Children’s Festival, it brings me an incredible amount of pride.”
