Who's ready for another day of the ZOOMS STEM Design Challenge at the Minnesota Zoo? We think Clyde, the California Sea Lion is saying "Yes - I'm ready!".
It’s the 12th annual ZOOMS STEM Design Challenge, and Clyde along with his sea lion friends are the featured animal. Presented by Flint Hills Resources, the yearlong project challenges students from third through twelfth grade to develop solutions for real zoo-based scenarios using their creativity, math, science and engineering skills.
Student teams have been presenting their projects to a panel of judges – including engineers from Flint Hills Resources all week. Top student teams will win prizes for conservation, innovation, teamwork and other zookeeper categories.

WHAT WE DO
The refinery produces most of Minnesota’s transportation fuels, including gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, as well as other products that people rely on such as propane and asphalt.
ECONOMIC IMPACT
The Pine Bend refinery employs more than 1,000 people full-time and is considered Minnesota’s most active work site. In addition, hundreds of contractors are on site every day.
ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP
Since 2000, the refinery has reduced its traditional criteria emissions 70% while increasing production to meet demand. Pine Bend will soon get up to 70% of its power from on-site highly efficient energy sources.
